Perhaps it’s time

Since i first joined the web3 space, back in Jan ’22 – sadly having missed out on the fun of ’21 when i was buying excessive amounts of vinyl instead of buying animal jpegs – i have always felt that the financial side of things has been far less important to me than the experience.

I fully appreciate that this is an incredibly blessed position to be in – but as someone much older than the vast majority in the space, I’ve said time and again that I’m here to learn, to network and to have fun. And I’ve absolutely meant it.

Nonetheless, as time has passed, it’s become ever clearer that whilst learning about web3 has fuelled and and fed the aspect of my personality that loves learning about new tech, there’s potentially at least a couple of professional opportunities worth exploring.

Whilst I’ve no delusions of grandeur about the fact i’ve simply been in the right place at the right time on numerous occasions throughout my career, it’s also true that i’ve been able to take a certain amount of experience from those opportunities.

So, as i continue to explore the fringes of crypto and web3, it strikes me that i may be in a relatively small group of people, with 30 years experience in marketing and 2.5 years at the super sharp end of the nft space. And i guess this puts me in something of an unique position to potentially help brands and businesses.

Whilst many web2* businesses have attempted to broach the space, there have certainly been more failures than successes, sadly. That’s a post for another day.

However, whilst the rules of the game continue to change month on month, i firmly believe that web3 teams can learn from marketing best practice – not least how to approach messaging, scaling up, reputation management and even content driven storytelling.

So, whilst i accept that it’s a bit weird and frankly it’s definitely a little uncomfortable for me to put myself out there, i guess it’s felt like the right time to do so.

Let’s see where the next stage of the adventure leads…

Moon/Pete. August 2024.

(*note – i feel obligated to report that this is web3 jargon for any business that isn’t web3)
